In 2021, China's sulfuric acid output reached a new high
Sinochem.com recently, China sulphuric acid industry association released the 2021 production and operation report of sulphuric acid industry. According to the report, China's sulfuric acid industry operated well as a whole last year. The total capacity, output and operating rate of the industry increased, and the total output of sulfuric acid reached a record high.
The report shows that China's total sulfuric acid production capacity will reach 128 million tons in 2021, an increase of 0.1% over the previous year; The newly built sulfuric acid production capacity totaled 4.03 million tons, up 98.5%. In 2021, the total output of sulfuric acid in China was 109 million tons, an increase of 5.8% over the previous year and a new record. Among them, the output of sulfuric acid production from sulfur was 48.07 million tons, up 4.9%; The output of smelting acid was 41 million tons, up 1.7%.
In terms of operating rate, in 2021, the average operating rate of China's sulfuric acid industry was 85.5%, an increase of 4.6 percentage points over the previous year. Among them, the operating rate of smelting acid is in the position.
In terms of exports, in 2021, China exported 2.84 million tons of sulfuric acid, an increase of 64.8% over the previous year; The average export price was 91.1 US dollars / ton, up 947.1%.
In terms of consumption, in 2021, China's apparent consumption of sulfuric acid was 107 million tons, an increase of 4.6% over the previous year. Among them, industrial consumption accounted for 46.6%, an increase of 0.7 percentage points; The acid used for chemical fertilizer accounted for 53.4%, down 0.7 percentage points.
The report points out that China's sulfuric acid production capacity and demand will continue to grow in the future. According to statistics, there will be 53 new and proposed sulfuric acid projects in China from 2021 to 2025, with a total capacity of 26.23 million tons / year. In terms of demand, the newly-built and proposed sulphuric acid downstream projects in China will bring a sulphuric acid demand of 17.55 million tons / year if calculated at an operating rate of 80%.
At the same time, the pressure of sulfuric acid production cost increases. By the end of May this year, the price of sulfur in China had risen to 3970 yuan / ton, and the price of pyrite had risen to 875 yuan / ton, both of which were at historically high levels. In the short term, it is difficult to change the tight situation of international sulfur resources. It is expected that the price will remain at a high level, and the production cost of sulfuric acid in China will face a high situation.
